It depends on the situation. It sure will make sure you don't really make enemies and discourage a whole bunch of them, but in a situation where you really do have to defend yourself you don't go hug the psychopath with the knife, you shoot him, twice in the chest near the heart for 9mm and up, and between the eyes twice for a sub-caliber.

Trough my schooling i had numerous possible-fight situations and solved them all by threats. I fought only once last year although it wasnt a fight i gave the guy flying sidekick and that was it. Psionically i have no idea about fighting.

Repeat until you can tie their hands and feet.

I think in hollywood movies this is a common theme. In psionics I would say not so good. I currently use the perspective of it all being in my head therefore energy that is directed at me my property to do with as I like. Since most people and entities are greedy and don't like giving things away for free the attacks mostly stop.
