I found this technique while listening to a psychic radio blog. I've tried it (been doing it) and my intuition skills are much better now.

Basically what she said was to go on a one month intuition binge. This means that for one month, when ever you have a decision to make, look 'inside' your self and see how you feel about it/ what answers you get. You need to believe in this answer, and if the risks aren't high, follow it.
At first you'll get some wrong answers, but acknowledging that you actually got an answer helps to strengthen the ability.

What you do to be sure that it's your subconscious and not just you giving yourself an answer, is to not over think it. Go with the first thing that comes to mind before you start analyzing things.

For me, they were faint and fleeting, but stood out.
Two events that stood out in my first week of training involved my ride to school:
My uncle normally comes to pick me up in the mornings but not at a set time (so he might early one day and late the other). The first time my intuition kicked me, I was in a house in the other side of the yard watching tv, and I heard a car in my head followed by the feeling that it was his, so I ran over to my house and as soon as I got to the front door he drove up to the gate. Its impossible to hear his car since he was on the other side of the block (and I had the tv on).
The next time, I was using the computer, then I heard "he comes" in my head (enjoying way too much zalgo) and started shutting down the computer, and right before I plugged it out, he drove up to the gate.

There are others, like the time I knew something was going to jump out at me when I was going to open my door and a rat did. My first week was the strongest, then it almost died down and gradually began to pick up again. Now its at the point where I just go through the day with little clues here and there and its like nothing now, though I've started on working on making it stronger.

A sudden feeling that your life is in danger and that you should run to the other side of the street to avoid some incoming fate may be just a telepath trolling you into getting whacked by a 16-wheeler.

Sounds a lot like "following your instinct".

Be careful about trusting intuition, but be more careful not to bend to the majority for whom "impossible" is a comforting excuse for inaction.
