Some of you may already hold a similar view to this, and this may be the view currently held by people who practice telepathy and empathy but I decided I'd post it through my own bias.

I currently believe that each of us has a kind of mental plane. This is a free flowing plane where energy is easily molded into shapes and images. This is where our conscious thoughts go. Dreams possibly exist on this plane as well, if they don't exist on other astral planes. I'm not sure whether or not our memories are stored in here. If one believed that time existed then you could potentially go back in time in someone's mental plane to see their past and future memories. If time doesn't exist then I believe that memories are stored in the brain, or soul and the mental plane is only affected when the person is thinking about something. So if they were thinking about an apple the apple would be on their mental plane, but the energy would reorder when they thought about something else.

Apart from being a neat philosophical view, it can be used as a technique in telepathy and empathy. You can astrally project into someone's mental plane and see their thoughts. A person can put up barriers to this intrusion such as mental walls which prevent the person from going anywhere. Then it's just like normal astral defense, except that you're defending your mind, a whole plane and the energy can be shaped into anything, though it wouldn't have much effect in an other plane.

There's also the possibility that there is only one mental plane and entities just use their own section of it, unaware of the others. It doesn't matter that much.

It's just something that's been on my mental plane lately.

I actually agree with you.  I've had this whole idea before, that you can actually project into someone's mind and look around and stuff like that.  Part of my shielding extends to that level.

This isn't exactly a new idea, it's been around for at least a hundred years (when the kybalion was published) if not thousands.

*shrugs* I never said that it was new. There are barely any ideas that are new these days. I remember seeing something similar to it in a book.

So it is just like navigating through a person's mind in the ordinary sense, just that it is on the astral or mental plane?

But when you shield in ordinary life, are you shielded when you go out of body too? Or do you need to make a shield there too?

I've heard the mental plane is above the astral, so it has a higher frequency..

Maybe what you are referring to might be the persons mindscape?
